Tropical Storm Irene and Southern Comfort be damned – 73 bikes and about 100 riders participated in the Second Annual Kingdom Thunder bike rally in support of IROC and its Healthy Changes Initiative. Many who had registered from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey were forced to cancel because of the threatening hurricane Irene heading our way. And when we returned from the ride, we got the news that the Connecticut band, Southern Comfort, which was scheduled to play on Saturday evening, had also pulled the plug because of the hurricane. But for the many who showed, we enjoyed a great ride, a perfect day, and a great BBQ with ribs, pulled pork, chicken and all the fixings prepared by Kurtis Johnson of Cedarwood Resort. Our afternoon DJ, In the Mix with Marvin Whitcomb, hung around to keep the music coming. Some drinks all around helped. And, Mind Trap responded to an emergency call from Heidi, jumped on their horses and rode up to save the night.

Once again Annie and the folks at Cedarwood pulled out all the stops. Couldn’t be a better Home of Kingdom Thunder. The Bus Drivers on Friday night were a party. The weather and the route of the ride couldn’t have been better or more beautiful. Road Captain, Randy Wells, quietly and efficiently served as a great leader of the pack. Fine lunch at The Spa. Nothing but good. And, all in all, we raised just about $6,000 to support IROC in its time of need. Thanks to all of you who rode, ate, drank, and danced to support the cause.
